The Mendoza Potable Water Plant expansion was a comprehensive design-build and procurement initiative aimed at significantly increasing regional water capacity to 60 MGD. This critical infrastructure project involved the full lifecycle development of the treatment plant's expansion, including the strategic procurement of all permanent equipment and materials essential for long-term operations. The scope extended well beyond the facility itself, encompassing a new raw water intake and pumping station at Gatún Lake, the installation of a 2.5 km transmission line, and the rehabilitation of 22 km of supporting road infrastructure to ensure reliable access and regional connectivity.
The project is highlighted by the construction of a new vehicular bridge over the Caño Quebrado River. This phase required the meticulous dismantling and demolition of collapsed structures and the implementation of a temporary crossing for river diversion to maintain flow during construction. By integrating water treatment upgrades with major structural and transit improvements, the project delivered a robust utility solution that addressed both immediate potable water demands and the essential infrastructure needed to support the plant’s expanded footprint.
